Favourite Takeaways

For those times where you are super hungry and can't be ****ed cooking, what are your favourite takeaways?

I basically go between Chicken Kebab (Turkish)-Teryaki Chicken Sub(Subway)-Teryaki Salmon (Japanese).

Tonight I'm doing the Salmon, it's heaven.

I always get a burger and a dog & take it home, while I'm waiting for my order they have free peanuts, I wolf those down until my number is called

The term 'curry' generally means South Asian food e.g. Indian, Pakistani & Bengali, or Anglo Asian cuisine here. You can get East Asian curries, Chinese takeaways do them too but they are nowhere near as popular (or as good imo), if a Brit says 'curry' they will mean the Indian/Pakistani/Bengali stuff, not Thai/Chinese etc.

I live in the Midlands (Birmingham), curry is very popular here cos there's a very large Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi community in the city, one of our regional dishes created here is the Balti.

Madras
Rogan Josh
Tikka Masala
Korma
Vindaloo
Biryani

^ As main courses these would all be popular choices (typically with a starter like onion bhajis, tandoori chicken, sheek kebab, keema naan etc).

Vindaloo in particular is just excellent and is a great dish to cook.

Breakfast sandwiches from 24 hour deli's.

GuD 07-07-2014 04:30 PM

Indian. Every time, Indian.

My favorite used to be this Chinese food place that made these deep-fried tofu cubes. The breading on those things... it was so perfect. So crispy and airy at the same time. They had those layers of deliciousness like in croissants or a perfect pie crust. I've come close but I've yet to accomplish the same texture, I'm thinking they used rice flour but idk.

FRED HALE SR. 07-07-2014 04:37 PM

I usually hit this place on the run.

Just because you're a geek and have horrible taste in cuisine you shouldn't project on me. Good day.

You know if you combine the two, you get a cut-rate Mick Jagger named McJovi.

I think this might actually be my dumbest post yet.

Chipotle, Chik Fil-A, or a medianoche and maduros from this delicious Cuban joint by my former place of work. I love love love Cuban food.

Frownland 07-07-2014 05:55 PM

I like pho quite a bit but I eat McDonald's sometimes. There's this local Greek/Mexican restaurant close to my house that has awesome gyros.

James 07-07-2014 05:56 PM

Chinese food. Specifically a nice duck in plum sauce.

Papa Sams in Bolton town center. Anything they do is amazing. I mainly get kebabs or pizza. Particularly good when walking home at 4am.

WWWP 07-07-2014 06:11 PM

Burritos always. Because Northern California.

Ninetales 07-07-2014 10:13 PM

All the good places I know are pizza places tbh. I used to work by this awesome little pizza place with awesome peach juice, our favorite drunk food place is this Korean pizza place that's $3 for half a pizza and now I currently work next to another cheap pizza place. Pizza4ever

Plankton 07-08-2014 10:46 AM

I'll do the obligatory hipster food pic when I return to my lair (office, or orifice)... unless thats a facepalm nowadays. I dunno anymore.

Great food at ridiculous prices mang. Although the sangwidges are usually bigger, they've been slowly getting busier as the years go by. My best kept secret isn't that much of a secret anymore dammit.

Has anyone on here ever had a McDonald's in both the US and the UK?

If there's one thing Americans know it's how to eat >>>

Whereabouts? Ireland?

Just wondered if there was much difference tbh, always thought the burgers are the size of sheep over there but might be as well be an urban myth for all I know.

RoxyRollah 07-09-2014 03:50 AM

France.

I honestly found no difference in the food. But was thrown for a loop with there being booze served.

djchameleon 07-09-2014 04:27 AM

There is no way in hell that I am going to another country to eat the same **** I can at home. I avoid Mickey D's whenever I travel. What is the point? Do you hate your taste buds?

When in Rome!

****ing eat local cuisine.

Sorry sir. Won't happen again sir.

Fully agree though, I have done it myself but I was drunk and on a night out in eastern Europe. Brits are probably the worst for this. Catch us in Spain speaking English in English bars eating pie and chips with a large beer (after pointing and shouting loudly & slowly 'I wanto el bigo beero' to order it).

James 07-09-2014 05:20 AM

That's cause drinking local beers is a great way to spend your holiday. I always look forward to it.

Cuthbert 07-09-2014 05:38 AM

Definitely, not knocking the beer drinking, but in Spain I'd rather eat paella than a pie and take in their culture. Plus foreign versions of British food are usually shite anyway so not worth it.

James 07-09-2014 05:57 AM

With you on the food for sure. Such a waste. I hate places that are essentially Britain abroad, just stuffed with expats and no semblance of another culture.

Scarlett O'Hara 07-11-2014 12:22 AM

Does American Mc'Ds sell salads too? They do in my country. Who really goes there to eat a salad tho.

The have to offer a low-calorie alternative in many cities/counties/states

ladyislingering 07-11-2014 12:44 AM

Since I have so many allergies, it's so hard to find places with "safe" takeout, but What the Pho in Tukwila is so awesome. Rice noodles? Hell yeah. Vegetables? You bet your ass. Vegetarian broth? Oh fuck yeah. These people have it down to a perfect, safe, tasty science. And I love them for it.

(they even have raw tofu!!!)
