My favorite are the angry nerds. They're the ones that prove that society's whole love affair with nerds is bull****. When people see cute, harmless, likable, Revenge of the Nerds-style losers who they can feel good about then they're champions of our cause. But as soon as a nerd gets uppity about the **** he takes, then people are all like, "Wait, who is this ****ing loser? Doesn't he know his place in life, which is below me and all my other cool friends?"

A male pet hamster with a female name is also a must.

I have been called a nerd once.

"You are a nerd because you know like, everything."

Embrace it.

I'm not very nerdy, but I've been called a nerd several times for various reasons, so I'll go with the top option.

I don't get called "nerd" but rarely, though sometimes I get "... only you would know that."

Sumo wrestling is from Japan, FYI; that emoticon is incorrect.
Keep it up with those though, you seem to have an emoticon for every situation.

I think I do. Is it about the Japanese way of pronouncing "l"s as "r" and vice versa, so Mr N is saying "Really" in Japanese? Is that it? Do I win a prize? What do I win? Is it cash? It better be cash. It's not cash, is it...? :tramp:

Is somebody impersonating me on this site? Do I have a doppelganger? Perish the thought! Today and yesterday there were entries shown here, made apparently by me, but I have not posted until now. Am I sleep-posting? No, there IS no post (other than this) and I have not added anything to the poll. So what is going on? ARRRGHHHHHH!!!!!! What was that? THAT! THERE! In the shadows ... I swear I saw something move ... THERE! THERE! Don't you SEE it?

GD 09-21-2014 03:59 PM

^Yes I see it too, it's a big terrifying MB bug that causes the "last post"'s posting date in any thread with a poll attached to it to show as when the poll was most recently answered. Beware!

Someone probably made a post that said something vulgar, rude or anti-Nerdic and the post was deleted, leaving you with what appeared to be the last time stamp.

Thelonious Monkey 02-06-2017 05:38 PM

I prefer the term geek. I always assume a nerd is somebody who is smart. I am not academically smart at all. I do enjoy geeky stuff, like Marvel movies, video games that interest me and music. I don't like to hang out with my fellow geeks much tho, since most of them that I know mostly only wanna talk about video games and movies and ****, and they happen to be socially awkward as ****.

Pet_Sounds 02-06-2017 06:23 PM

I'm not a nerd. I'm a philosopher.

Chiomara 02-06-2017 06:47 PM

I've been informed in the past that I'm definitely a dork rather than a nerd. (I guess because I read Victorian household & toxicology manuals and medieval bestiaries and hoard old things rather than play games/read comics and such. I think I definitely would have been a nerd in Victorian times.)

It's interesting, though-- a lot of the self-proclaimed nerds I meet tend to just be mid-20s dudebro types who are utterly indistinguishable from your garden-variety dudebros (ugh now I'm imagining a literal garden of miniature men in cargo shorts & League of Legend shirts, I hate my brain) aside from the fact that they play MMOs for several hours per day. I've dated a couple of them and it wasn't fun. I also briefly worked at a video game company as a QA tester, which was also not fun, despite what many tend to assume.

When I think of nerds I think of nice, long-haired D&D-playing comic-reading renfaire types. (Speaking of D&D, has there been a thread for that yet?)

There are too many different types of nerds to list, though. Horror nerds, literary nerds... *gazes wistfully over the horizon*

Sorry, but MB ain't big enough for two Innerspaceboys. MB tradition dictates that this be settled with a winner-takes-all cage match. There can be only one.

Nerd Credentials:
  • Built a retrobox server with every episode of every godd*mn show I watched as a kid.
  • Closet full of disco shirts, fedoras, and late 19th-century attire
  • Completely out of touch with the planet
  • Constructed a Fruchterman Reingold graph depicting the web-like interrelationships between my 60 favorite sub and micro-genres for kicks.
  • Former AV crew staff
  • Good games need only one red button
  • House looks like the residence of an elderly Englishwoman
  • I alphabetized this list.
  • If you didn't build it yourself, I probably think less of you.
  • Linux.
  • Misses the BBS community
  • MS-DOS 6.0
  • Owns a cravat.
  • Seriously gets off on cataloging and large library management
  • Spent hundreds of dollars on old Sesame Street merch and somehow thinks that is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
  • World's largest collection of Pac-Man Fever merch. I have no shame.

Oh, and I used to print out pictures of Megaman characters, glue them to cardboard, cut the cardboard around the paper, and then use them as homemade action figures.

There is enough room for a male and female version of the same type though

From the al-oholicsanonymous FAQ:

Quote:

CPFA used to be the official fan club for Al... and for a while, it seemed to be completely defunct. Fortunately, it is still alive today and actually serves as an office where Al can receive all his fan mail. Yes, he does read it all, but there are helpers who "weed out" all the parody song ideas people send him.

Here's the address:

Literary nerd checking in. As I am a gentleman who detests bloodshed (and as it is by bedtime), I will extend a hand of comradery and end this epic battle in the hope that together, Chiomara and I might serve as Victorian lord and lady to rule over all of nerdom.

Chiomara has described herself as an “avid music hoarder”... I can certainly align myself with that. And while I was never quite to her level of “unbearably pretentious goth”, I did spend many sweltering summers leather clad looking like a mime from hell, spinning WaxTrax!/TVT records well into the night. I hope that will suffice.

Her penchant for 80s synthpop would mesh well with my unabashed fandom of pre-Underworld Freur, (can you HANDLE Welsh synth pop?), and she can file her “snooty experimental ambient stuff” in my Great Hall of Ambient Music.

I’ll await the lady’s reply. (Don’t panic, everyone. I’ve brought my towel.)
