Mind you, it's a whole lot better than Granma Week, when old ladies follow you around telling you how it was in their day and how you should really have a girlfriend by now...

Two days left people. Anyone wanna buy a dictionary or a thesor -- tassaur --- thisore --- book with lots of meanings for words in it? ;)

Isbjørn 09-13-2014 01:47 PM

Nah, I have a dictionary/thesaurus app on my phone. I'm a child of the 21st century.

Grammar Week begins at 12:00 midnight GMT. That gives all of you 2 hours 29 minutes before the Grammar Nazis strike!

Pet_Sounds 09-13-2014 02:48 PM

The deadline for joining the Grammar Nazis and thus being eligible to participate in Grammar Week is 12:00 midnight GMT on September 15. At that time, I will lock it into an invite-only group. So sign up now, and join our glorious cause!

The Batlord 09-13-2014 03:27 PM

So midnight GMT is at seven o'clock Eastern time in the states?

It'll be 8PM in Eastern time 'cause we're still on Daylight Savings Time.

Right! Just checked and you are indeed correct. So 1 hour 56 minutes still remaining.

Midnight GMT on Sept. 15 = NOON on Sept. 15 in New Zealand.
You're 12 hours ahead of GMT.

I'm appointing you director of time zones!

The September 15th cutoff is for actually joining the group. Grammar Week begins in just under an hour.

I am countering Grammar Week with Fact Checker Week. Fact: it's impossible to "never sleep." The record to go without sleep is about 11 days and live by Randy Gardner. There was this Japanese business man who was working on a merger (even though he was going to loose his job) worked days without sleeping and drop dead. He death was attributed to sleep deprivation.

And then there is this story:
Jiang Xiaoshan dies after watching every Euro 2012 match and going 11 nights without sleep | Mail Online
edit: Goofle do not attempt to do this^

Where do I begin? "African-Canadians" should be in quotation marks, since you're referencing the term, and not actually using it in the sentence; you misspelled "admit", and that last ... sentence, is just a mess of horrid punctuation. This may be like shooting fish in a barrel for Grammar Week, but it still had to be done. I'm just glad it was me.

Dude, come on. A sentence in parenthesis still has to follow basic grammar rules. You must capitalize the first word, and use proper punctuation (you missed the comma after "Also", and the period after "shown".) You have failed this city.

Sorry, Batty. The plural of parenthesis is parentheses.

Actually, they've both been eliminated. However, it would be too boring without those two. I'm off to revise the rules! Welcome to the Ministry of Truth! ;)

What the ****, dude? I just raked Roxy over the coals for not putting words that she was referencing in a sentence in quotation marks, and now you have failed to do the same with "parenthesis" and "parentheses".

Trollheart already corrected your grammar, so you're also disqualified, which would make your correction of my grammar invalid.

You forgot to put a comma after "No" at the beginning of your post. And I just got Mondo's bitch ass.

You forgot to put "Souls of Zero" in italics, there should be commas after both "Zero" and "Neurosis", and the end of your sentence lacks a period.

Pet_Sounds 09-13-2014 08:14 PM

Now that Grammar Week has begun, I have revised various aspects of the rules that jumped out at me as impractical after Grammar Week actually started. These are listed below and in my original post.

1: Being caught does not eliminate you. It merely costs you a point.

2: An individual user can be caught multiple times, provided that user belongs to The Grammar Nazis. A user who does not belong to The Grammar Nazis can only be caught once. This is also known as the WhateverDude clause.

3. The Introductions subforum is off limits, as is the Members' Journal subforum.

Frownland 09-13-2014 08:17 PM

I move that we keep the Nazism out of introduction threads as well to keep new members from thinking that we're a bunch of pedantic assholes, or at least to delay that thought.

Oh gee whiz I have this inherent discomfort for things about Nazis out-side a historic perspective. I don't mind watching documentaries about WWII and Nazis, but I feel uncomfortable hearing Nazi Jokes, or calling people Nazis, Grammar Nazis, Soup Nazis etc or calling me self a Nazi or Grammar Nazi. I think I'll pass. I'll hide out in the safe zones for now.

That quest is also worth it because of the reward you get.
Spoiler for The reward:
The Backwater rifle. The almighty medium range small gun in the game.
Spoiler for Stats:
With max luck it criticals ****ing 90% of the time, and if that's not enough, it uses 10mm rounds, which is just incredible.

Best quest ever.

Point Lookout is hard as **** though. The game designers cut a few corners and if you go in with a max level the enemies can do stupid stuff like ignore your DR and..GODDAMN those enemies wielding the double barrel! damn them straight to hell!!
Good news is you can return from it technically at any time, (for an exorbitant fee), but you nontheless can return, which is in stark contrast to all other DLCs.

Your ****ty run-on sentence, with its overuse of the word "and", and almost complete and utter lack of commas, has now been critiqued by the Grammar Nazis. Let this be a lesson to you, One-Whose-First-Language-Is-Clearly-Not-English.
