what is the consensus on bark collars? i know this forum is full of bleeding hearts. though i also know that invisible fences are pretty commonly used by animal lovers. my dogs won't shut the **** up no matter what i try. i am pretty close to strapping them with bark collars at this point. do you guys think this is cruel?

If you have to put a bark collar on your dog and you refuse tp train it properly, you shouldn't own a dog.

Bark collars are not all created equal. If you are going to use one be sure to research them. I'd call your local SPCA or vet and ask them what collar they would recommend.

Some of them will shock by accident if the collar is bumped or for other reasons.

I think they're inhumane, because some dogs get traumatized by that shit. Introducing your dog to your smacking hand would be better (I'm okay with that as long as you don't overdo it).

well i didn't want to own a dog to be perfectly honest. i got stuck with these dogs through a series of circumstances. i don't know what else to do with them other than bring them to the pound.

but i am open to suggestions on how to get them to stop barking all the time... that's why i made this thread. i don't actually want to put bark collars on them i just don't know how to train dogs and they are honestly driving me crazy.

Knowing dogs, they probably just want a place to run around. Do you keep your dogs in a small apartment? do you let them out in a yard? Most of the time the barking is due to the dog not getting the attention or exercise that it needs. Its pretty easy to find the source, just gotta make sure your living arrangements are suitable for dogs as well as yourself.

no, live in a house and i have a decent sized yard. usually when i let them out i put them on a 25 foot chain. but i do let them out to run every so often, it's just i don't have a fence so usually when i do this they end up running off and i have to chase them down and bring them back in the house. so this gets tiring which prevents me from letting them run as much as i'd like.

it seems like the main source of them barking is any time the see a person or another dog outside through the window

You have any dog parks nearby? That'll allow them to run like crazy and also get more comfortable around other dogs.

The barking at other dogs is a territorial thing I think. Especially if its a dog they don't know very well. They're basically telling the other dogs "hey this is my yard, stay away."

Also I agree with Chula. Getting them comfortable with other dogs would help.
