I get pretty annoyed any time high diction is used in casual conversation. Shove a crumpet up your ass, buzz kill, we're trying to get drunk and over analyze burritos.

When I talk I regularly use fairly "high diction", and I can't help that. I might have this weird disorder where I don't like sounding like a moron though. That and I have friends that know what I'm saying.

I say what I mean and if that requires high diction, so be it.

That was half a serious question and half a way to crack myself up.

On the real though I hang with STEM folks, not history majors. I generally find their slang-ridden explanations and skills more impressive than some college kid regurgitating a thesaurus. Not to mention more bearable on the ears.

I get that, but I have a history of slumming with idiots who look at me sideways if I say anything remotely intellectual. I was once interrupted during a political discussion when one guy said, "You use big words". The big word I used was "constituents". If you're intimidated by the word "constituents", then you need to read more books.
