I don't want less people to have kids because I have something against the stupidity of humans. I want less people to have children because there is a serious population problem that needs to be addressed and no one seems to give a fuck about the future generations. I mean the goal is to become scientifically/technologically advanced enough to escape the planet and inhabit others before the world resets itself (leading to human extinction), which is an inevitable based on what we know about the the history of it's existence. Right?

basically i was referring to the fact that empathy manifested as a biological tool. and the basis for every biological tool is the ultimately the successful reproduction of a genetic lineage. i.e. having kids/pumping out humans

Sounds like an over simplification to an incredibly complex system. The brain does many things which go against saving genetic lineage, how do you differentiate between traits we acquired from successful evolution versus human emotion?

Edit: Maybe not genetic lineage but definitely general reproduction. We aren't like other animals whose only goal in life is finding a suitable mate to reproduce.

I guess this is the part that didn't click with me the first time. I'll blame it on my stoner brain. That is interesting though, I haven't given that notion a lot of thought until now. I'm a terrible scientist.
