Anyway, now that I've calmed down, final thought:

"If a tree falls in the forest, who cares?"

or, ancient Irish one:

"If it takes a man a week to walk a fortnight, how many apples in a barrel of grapes?"

Finally, my own:

"Money can't buy happiness, but you can sure be miserable in comfort!"
