Yeah man keep an eye on him he should be ok.

Does your cat ever do lots of pathetic meows for no reason?

Fed, gone out, got water etc just randomly doing these very weak meows every thirty seconds or so. Maybe he has fleas I don't know. I don't know what he wants but he keeps meowing back to me.

If he was sick or hurt he'd probably not be meowing at all and just huddled somewhere out of the way. If he's got food and water then I don't know what to tell you.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 02-14-2017 10:34 AM

maybe he's just retarded

Got a new addition to my team at work.
She used to previously work in another department in our company, but got fired because they were *******s and worked against her.
That was a total dick move and I'm glad justice prevailed. Looking forward to be a good boss to her. She deserves the break.

Maybe he's just feeling extra opinionated today? (I tried googling, but didn't find anything)

That was actually a drunken typo, but I think it's way better than my intended post.

Today: A bit stressful. But there were thunderstorms in abundance, at least.

My brother left today, and I finally managed to find a new copy (I lost my other) of The Ghost & Mrs. Muir at Half-Priced Books. So, there's that.

Before that, I had an early dinner at my favorite nearby Thai restaurant; it was nearly empty, and I had a great chat with the lone waiter. I somehow wound up finding a gift for his wife; he'd gotten a glimpse at my bag, which... Is this strange leather monstrosity (it even has eyes!) that was made to resemble a tree face. He kept asking me where I bought it, saying that his wife had always wanted a similar thing. I had gotten it many moons ago at some ren faire booth, and had to google "weird tree face leather bag" to find out where on earth one could buy them online. But I found it! So that was nice, I suppose.

And now I'm going to eat my leftover curry. Oh! I also got a bunch of birthday giftcards for Amazon, so if anyone has some urgent recommendation (books, comics, cooking contraptions), do please tell me. I'm paralyzed by indecision.

I got you on comics. What you need? And...

I'll go ahead and add Miracleman.

Hrmmm let's see... Well, I loved Sandman, as well as the bits and pieces I read of Fables, Transmetropolitan, Hellblazer, Swamp Thing and Preacher. (I've no problem with graphic violence. But I prefer ones that have fantasy/magical elements too. Gothic horror elements/settings are also a bonus)

I also would like to read at least one graphic novel that isn't based in a modern America-like world. There was one I thumbed through at the bookstore (I can't recall the name)-- an enormous black and white one, I think-- that was based somewhere in the middle east. It had some mythological theme, I think..? So, something like that would be nice as well.

The Batlord 02-14-2017 08:49 PM

This?

https://www.amazon.com/Habibi-Panthe.../dp/0375424148

The Batlord 02-14-2017 08:55 PM

And I would also add Saga and Y the Last Man. One is a space opera featuring both sci-fi and fantasy elements in their most whimsical yet oddly mature form, but rooted in character and family drama. The other is a post-apocalyptic tale of the last man alive in a world where only women survive. Both are utterly fantastic, especially Saga.

Thank you, good sir! Both of those indeed look fantastic. I can't say no to space operas. (And I don't believe Habibi was the one I had seen before, but that one looks interesting too)

Chula Vista 02-14-2017 10:19 PM

I just ordered Sandman volumes I and II. Better live up to the hype. I'm looking at you Bat.

I know you wanted more fantasy/magical but 100 bullets is too good to pass up.

I also agree with Batty's recs of Saga and Y the Last Man, I started both but got distracted by other things. I want to go back and finish them up one day.

As far as horror/gothic feel. I believe that you would probably love The October Faction from Steve Niles.

Both of those look great; thanks! (And a magical element isn't a necessity; as long as there's some dreamlike OR horror--southern gothic especially-- aspect I typically like it.)

OK, now I'm going to need recommendations for more frivolous Amazon things. (Carnivorous plants? Roller skates? A giant bag of sour gummy worms..?)

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 02-15-2017 09:30 AM

definitely gummy worms

I read part of it a while back but I don't remember much about it other than it being really good.

Mike turned 28 today. I'm 56.

This is the last time I'll be at least twice as old as one of my kids. Pretty sure this is a good thing. Right?

Cuthbert 02-15-2017 01:54 PM

Happy Birthday to him. How was the day?

Chula Vista 02-15-2017 03:22 PM

Uneventful. Always a good thing when it comes to him.

innerspaceboy 02-15-2017 03:54 PM

The bad: Just got out of the hospital with a severe corneal abrasion and really terrific pain. I'm practically blind for the next few days.

The good: The Spoon remaster of Can's Soon Over Babaluma just landed on my doorstep.

All in all a great day.

Oh no! How on earth did that (the corneal abrasion) happen?

Eat a dick Austria and Hungary. We just drove through about 200 kilometers of absolutely terrifying fog.
I never would have thought that fog can cover such a huge stretch of land.
