fair enough, marmaris is good for that, have fun

Heh... yesterday I was moving the last of my stuff to the new apartment and my car started vibrating and knocking and doing all kinds of grinding. I was thinking it was a busted up CV joint. Shit. So today I skipped out of school and called around to some repair shops to get quotes. Lowest I could find was 300 including labor. Shit.
So I get it to a shop and it turns out a wheel was loose and about to fall off. WTF? How does that even happen?
Then I remembered: I changed my brakes recently. It was my fault. I apparently couldn't put enough man into tightening the lug nuts. (in my defense, I was using a tiny emergency lug bar)
So I'm only out 30 bones and I'm quite relieved. The rest of my day will be spent celebrating over a 6 pack of beer. Yay.

Yesterday was shit. I had to wake up early to get on the road from Rosarito back to Reno. I get to the border lineup and everything's all good, just listening to some music and trying not to make eye contact with the vendors when all of a sudden my car just dies. I'm about... 100 feet away from the US side and my car is just dead. I'm freaking about because I can't get it started and I had just replaced the battery, plus I've got people honking at me and just being *******s. With no options left, I get out and start pushing my car, and luckily a merchant selling these giant crucifixes gives me a hand to get my Jeep over a dip in the road. So I finally push it up to the border guard and I guess he took some kind of pity on me because he didn't give me a harsh time and told me where to push my car for a tow truck. There's like 6 Border Guards standing around with tweezers in their hands so they can masturbate their tiny cocks, so nobody's helping me move my Jeep. I call AAA and get a tow truck to take me to a Pep Boys in a nearby town because they're open on Sundays and can help me get back on the road that day.

This is where my day gets shitty...

The Pep Boys I was taken to was by far the worst managed one I had ever seen in my entire life. I got there at about 10:45 AM and had my car diagnosed by 11:00 AM, apparently my distributor rotor had so much crap crusted over it that it couldn't distribute a charge and my ignition coil was badly in need of repair. Fine I thought, whatever can get me back on the road. Well their store was out of the parts, but luckily a guy was going to go over to another store and pick them up... in about 2 hours. So he finally gets the parts and then the mechanics go on a 2 hour break and I'm left waiting in this tiny room with about 6 other people, phones are ringing, vuvuzelas are going and just chaotic noise all around me, enough to make me want to vomit. Then I find out that the sales guy is trying to throw in a new set of premium spark plugs even though I really only need the ignition coil and distributor rotor to get me home. So after some haggling I get the price knocked down from $1000 to $600 and get told my car will be ready in 30 minutes... One hour later I'm told that they are waiting on the ignition coil which didn't come with the first delivery. Finally the part comes and THEN I get told that they have to go back to the other Pep Boys store to get a wrench or tool or something to put the pieces back together.

To make a long and painful story short, my car is fixed and I'm back in Reno now. Also fuck Pep Boys and US Border Patrol.

I've never been to a good Pep Boys. The whole gd chain of stores is filled with a bunch of AutoZone rejects. And that's saying something.

I get all my repair work done by a little locally owned shop in the town I live in.... no big chain store crap, honest diagnosis, no stupid upselling of stuff I don't want... I like that place. Wouldn't go to cdhain if I was paid, but I understand the circumstances of the story described above.... there was little choice.

After roughly a year and a half out of work (not including 2 jobs where I barely got any shifts and actually left me worse off) I have been taking a course for a free SIA badge this week to get some work in event cover and security. This was only ever intended as a stop gap and a few quid in my pocket while I continue the job search that became tiresome long ago. Today, while in said training I recieved a call from an employment agengy who have read my CV online and want to put me forward for an interview for a temporary, going on permament position, for what sounds to be a decent job. Now, this sounds good news but of course this means that go to the interview I have to ditch the course. The SIA badge means nothing to me so its a no brainer but what are the odds on me dropping it, not getting the job and coming out of this with absolutely nothing?

The Fascinating Turnip 07-13-2010 10:40 AM

Sounds like a rather tough decision mate. If nothing happens with the job there's no way you can go back to the training course?
