I call it a debit card. Or bank card.

I think an ATM card and debit card are technically two different things, the difference being that you can't use an ATM card to make purchases.

I've never heard of a card like that until just now, honestly! Maybe it's not something that is too common here... everybody that I know gets a debit card with each bank account that they open, chequing or savings accounts. But maybe when you open an account with which you can't make purchases (like high interest savings accounts or GIC's or mutual funds), sure maybe you get a card like that, but I think most people just go to the teller when they deal with those accounts anyways.

What's an ATM card? Everybody here has either a debit card or credit card, I just thought ATM was another name for one of these.

That's what I thought! Though a credit card is something completely different... I thought the card you use at the bank machine AND for purchases was called either a debit card or an ATM card.

The only difference is, is that a credit card means you can spend money that you don't have. I just thought ATM was maybe an umbrella term for them. Nobody uses the name ATM here.

...was decidedly mediocre.
No complaints here.

True, true. But I've never heard of anyone trying to put a credit card inside an ATM machine

That's people get cash advances on their credit card. Bad idea, but that's how you do it.

A friend of mine got married today. It was a great wedding; pretty casual and relaxed. Not a great day to be dressed up (hot!), but it went well. More socializing tomorrow at an outdoor picnic/ baptism/ pool party. Very busy weekend.
