Well it was a long week as I got settled into my new place, but I'm pretty happy with what I've managed to do so far.

I've been doing some research into the house and as evidenced by all the graffiti it was a pretty big party/punk house. I found out that my barber has played shows in my room, as well as my friend's little brother. It's practically a heritage house in some circles.

That chair has followed me since 2008 when I moved out on my own for the first time. I've had multiple chances to replace it with a recliner but have declined each time, there's just something about it that makes me want to keep it around.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with the cozy feeling it has, while still being pretty big, or at least big enough to have 5 people in it and not feeling like you have to sacrifice your personal space. I wish I had a window though, waking up at 7 am in absolute darkness is just weird, although I am definitely sleeping better.

It's an old house though, and has old house problems, like our bathtub not properly draining despite pouring bleach and draino down it, and then taking apart some of the pipes and poking around for hair clumps.

I don't know why you're telling me. This problem literally just had a multiplication, division, addition and subtraction in it. Doing the multiplication/division first, the rest of the problem should be obvious.

Here's what it was....

6 - 1 x 0 + 2 / 2

So it's 6 - (1 x 0) + (2 / 2) then...
6 - 0 + 1 then...
6 + 1

Which, apparently for a very large amount of people, equals 0, 1, 5, and occasionally, 3.5 and sometimes -6...

Using the standard order of operations, the answer is 7. Obviously, one should not assume that because addition is worded before subtraction in the PEMDAS or BODMAS acronym, that it should be done first before the other in equal rank. Multiplication and division are the same rank, and addition and subtraction are of the same rank. The order of operations dictates left to right when dealing with same ranks, not which operation appears first in the abbreviation.

Therefore, to solve addition before subtraction based on where the letter appears in the PEMDAS or BODMAS acronym is fallacious and can result in an incorrect answer, depending on the setup of the problem.

There was a thread similar to this on here before, and it came down to what people were actually taught in school as to what were the correct order of operations (both of which had equally substantial and supportive material and arguments)

Besides BODMAS, there was PEMDAS

Exponents
Multiplication
Division
Addition
Subtraction

Using this method, one would get:

6 - 1 x 0 + 2 / 2

6 - (1 x 0) + 2 / 2 [Multiplication]
= 6 - 0 + (2 / 2) [Division]
= 6 - 0 + 1
= 6 - (0 + 1) [Addition]
= 6 - 1 [Subtraction]
= 5

All the discussions basically amounted to exercises in futility. No agreement could be made on whether once the equation was simplified, if addition always took precedence over subtraction [the AS is PEMDAS], and multiplication over division [the MD in PEMDAS], regardless of their left-to-right order in the equation.
