APA, It's for a research proposal, so it's pretty much all science articles and maybe a text book or two.

..........I don't know who in college has the free time to do a 10 page research paper on the side when it's not even required, but I'm definitely not one of those people

I'm curious about what your reaction would be if you had to write a 30 page thesis and it's not optional. I never did the extra credit assignments though.

At least with a thesis, you're reporting on your own research so it's much easier to prattle on for pages and generate images/diagrams/tables from your work. Whereas with class reports you're typically being forced to report on a subject you don't care much for.

That's the good thing. I always hated writing papers on topics I didn't give a crap about. I had much better time writing 2 undergraduate theses on topics of my choice. They just had to be approved by the professor and then I was free to write however I wanted to.

Such an assignment would be probably be structured around the class, or am I wrong? The extra credit 10-pager has to be on top of the ridiculous mountain of law material we all have to study along with the rest of our classes, I just don't think I could possibly do it while still remaining focused on all my other stuff.

A more serious answer would be because I have to. If I was still an undergrad I would probably moan and grumble and do a half-ass job with it. When you're a postgrad you get stuff like this regularly and it's expected to be done right.
