Just got back from my first-ever viewing of The Evil Dead. I feel lucky that my initiation was on the big screen thanks to my local indie theater.

Working 9am-2pm and then going back to work 10pm-3am, while finishing up schoolwork in-between. Gonna be a fun day. But on the bright side there's a sale at the comic shop right across the street from Burger King.

I have been in Belfast for the last 5 weeks as an extra in game of thrones, a battle scene!

This is long, but is a pretty "interesting" slice of my current life.

As many of you know the company I've worked for for the past 18 years was recently screwed in the butt by our biggest customer and largest China manufacturer. They basically conspired to go around us and steal our intellectual property and to break a contract. Almost overnight we lost about 85% of our sales revenue. We've been embroiled in a massive lawsuit against the both of them for the past year and we probably have another year before it'll get to trial. We're hoping they come to their senses and settle long before then - they'll get killed in court.

So anyway, a company of 35 employees has slowly been gutted down to only 3. The owner, his wife, and me. On any given day I'll have to process purchase orders, sales orders, invoices, handle customer service, quality issues, document control, operations, project management, as well as reviewing legal documents, attending depositions, compiling 18 years worth of data for discovery, and being a part of every phone call or meeting with our lawyers.

Oh, and we have to be out of the office building that we've been in for the past 10 years by December 31st. We also have to insure that everything in the building is gone. So, about a month ago the owner comes to me and says, "I need you to take an inventory of everything and sell it off by the end of the year."

Gulp.

The current list contains 386 items with a sell value of about $50K. We're talking office furniture, kitchen appliances, all sorts of storage cabinets and shelving, conference room tables, stereo equipment, electronic and acoustic test equipment, warehouse racks, a forklift, air purifiers, shredders, printers, all sorts of tools, white boards, cork boards, decorative stuff, etc.

So my day today will be spent on the phone setting up appointments with liquidators as well as other interested parties. I've passed flyers out to all of the surrounding businesses, posted the item list on Facebook, and also contacted the new tenants who may buy a bunch of stuff to save having to buy new.

All hail Zoloft baby.

Just got back from the comic shop, where they were having a Halloween Comic Fest sale: 25% off on-the-rack comics, 50% off comics in the back issue bins, buy one graphic novel get one 50% off, and like, 25% off figurines or something. Spent $42 on issues 16-21, the Holiday Special, and the Road Trip Special of Harley Quinn, and issues 1 and 3-5 of Starfire (done by the same people who do Harley Quinn, so it's pure gold). Couldn't be more thrilled.

Also found out that I can buy a pack of 100 bags and backing boards for $8, so Imma do that **** next payday. 25 cents per bag/backing board isn't breaking the bank or anything, but it still adds up. And yes, I'm one of those people. Must preserve my comics until I can pass them down to my uninterested offspring when I die.

Fantastic, Bat! I'm lucky to have BagsUnlimited based just an hour outside of my town. A killer source for LP, CD, DVD, comic, pulp, and PB storage supplies.

I've got my top 1500 LPs poly bagged, along with all my Sergio Aragones' Groo issues, and my collection of golden age sci-fi paperbacks.

Still working on an uninterested offspring to foist them upon.

This morning, I was too old for trick-or-treating. After lunch, my best friend called and I suddenly got a lot younger.

Now I have to figure out what to do with all this candy.

innerspaceboy 10-31-2015 10:12 PM

This evening I took a hard look at my vinyl library and was alarmed by how many classic LPs I've purchased but never spun. Promptly set myself a resolution to get to know my music better.

I quickly assembled a list of 67 critically-acclaimed records in my catalog which I myself am not well-acquainted. I built a reference Google Sheet of the pressings and catalog numbers and scheduled listening sessions on Google Keep for the next 30 days to check those titles off my list.

November evenings will be spent immersed in music education.

Made a very bad judgement call today regarding my diabetes care, and almost just passed out as a result. Hooray for outrageously high-carb pop-tarts and leftover Halloween candy.
