Is it common to have potato salad on Thanksgiving in PR?

Yea, that is actually the dish my side of the family is always in charge to prepare. We don't get cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie is replaced with Vanilla Flan but I think that's the only changes we make.

Do you do yuca instead of potatoes?

No but we do a dish I'm not fond of called dulce de batata which has marshmallows on the top.

Not a fan either, its disgustingly sweet.

Sweet potatoes on their own aren't that great, but with marshmallows they almost become a desert. I wouldn't have believed it either, but then I had it and couldn't get enough.

I pick the marshmallows out, dump some beer in it, and then stir it up real good.

Agreed, although I prefer a candied pecan topping on mine.
