Nobody that stands the test of time. People that already had industry connections and is just as pointless and stupid comparing them to your average Joe as Chula comparing The Beatles to your average Joe in that time.

Edit: And most of those people have plan Bs when their music career falls flat.

Then he'd be wrong. Kanye blew up before anybody knew his personality and already had a lucrative career as a producer prior. He's very talented. In fact, his fame is usually despite his personality.

Absolutely. Also check the edit.

I hope he says Kanye so that we can laugh at him for being an old man.

I read this quora question the other day out of curiosity and the second to top answer (Mark Doss's) is a cringsterpiece.

misses the point

they made great music the musicians themselves were certainly amateurs which is part of the liberation factor of this music it's an assault on meritocracy

I'd say that they're great musicians, but my barometer for that is how good their music is, not how advanced they are as classical players.

but people talk like they were studio musicians that played sloppy on purpose

Eh, kind of a yes and no think since their sloppiness is mostly a result of their energy.

Why are we discussing music on MB?

So what would you call someone who isn't technically advanced but still makes great music?

Twisted way to ask the question.

Kurt Kobain made great music. Chick Corea makes great music.

I often check how technically proficient each musician is at their instrument through wikipedia and award on a scale from 1-10

I then multiply the band technical average by how many albums they sold

in this way I can efficiently decide who my favorite bands are without having to listen to any music!

lmao

For a second I was honestly tempted to think you were being serious about using some arcane, pretentious rubric that does the opposite of what you seem to be saying.
