in canada you just order a burger, there’s no asking how you want it cooked. at least not at any restaurants i’ve been to. happens everywhere in the US.

Is it even safe? I mean I know rare steak is safe because the bacteria is on the surface which you kill with two seconds in a blazing hot pan but with ground meat the surface area is everywhere.

Surely you would need to get it to a high temperature inside to ensure it's safe meaning it would be cooked anyway and not rare?

It can make you sick in theory but tbh you're going to be fine unless the meat is contaminated otherwise which is really uncommon. It can be pretty great though, you should try it.
