He owes $500 a month in rent (likely for March and possibly April), plus $750 for electric to date, plus whatever electric he uses for the remainder of his stay. I understand he'll also need money for his first month's rent and security deposit when he moves out.
He does have "access" to funds - his entire family are lawyers and he has several million in retirement investments, I just don't know the practical liquidity of those assets. He may borrow from family. We're on good terms and he has kept his word as long as I've known him. He says that he'll take care of his debts. The electric bill balance is due in just under 30 days so time will tell. While I'm not counting on it, I'm at least hopeful. That's all I can do at this point. |

You need to have a serious talk with this ****er. There’s **** you can do. You could probably just call his mom. You value his friendship but do you really want to be his friend if he’s going to do you like that? I bet he’d get the money if it was a gambling debt or he needed bail. If he’s embarrassed to hit up his family he needs to get over it. That money represents a lot of your time. **** being nice. He’s playing you for a fool son. You should be the one ****ing him not vice versa. Get you money and some for your trouble too. Take his bitch ass to court if need be. |

Thanks, everyone. I'm giving him the opportunity to keep his word. Closer to the due date of the electric bill I'll have another serious talk with him if he hasn't produced the money. He's been actively job hunting and aced the first and second interview so he's on the right track.
In a worst-case scenario, I will opt for small claims court, but I'm hopeful it won't come to that. I'm being patient but will not overextend myself to my own detriment. (At least no more than I already have.) I'll let you know how everything works out. |

Walked through our old home for the last time today. Had to inspect the renovations with the realtor. They did an amazing job! New rugs, new paint, new hardwood, and a bunch of little improvements (light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, etc.)

So now you just need someone to buy the place, huh?
Are you going to keep living there in the meantime? It seems like the order of things would be sell the house first by the Winnebago 2nd... |
