You know, I'd agree with that. Now that I'm (technically) unemployed, or at least have no real structure I have to follow, I do have to create my own. Whether it's watching certain things on telly, going to the shops, writing, playing music ... whatever it is, I don't like to just sit and stare into space. So yeah, we definitely all need some sort of routine or structure to follow.

Mind you, I'd be prepared to try lazing on the beach with several million in the bank! I think I could manage that for a while.

Drug addiction provides structure.

Yep. Reminds me of the time I had to read and respond to some essay in college about how life doesn't have meaning if you don't work. My response was scathing enough that the professor told me that she took it off of the curriculum. Occupying your time is the key, not joining some knob's law firm.

Much like how school is just daycare with the illusion of preparing young people for their future, regardless of whether or not we'll ever use or remember 95% of it.

humans don't want to be veggies, they just don't want to be slaves either

That's what i was thinking when the lottery thing came up. If i had enough money to not work i would chill for awhile but eventually i would want to start up a bussines or something like that.

You should have made him wear clown shoes.

There are 100s of people who have more money stashed away than anyone will ever make off the lottery, and they all still work.. It's really not that absurd to be loaded and still work or want to work. I feel that sentiment mostly exists only within the population that isn't disgustingly well off.

I don't think I remember even 1% of the young people's future.

Church. A boss can be a genuinely nice person who will look out for you, but you should still never trust them or forget that the entire basis for your professional relationship is that they can deprive you of your means to feed yourself if you don't do what they say. And there is still a point at which your boss will stop looking out for you if they believe, or are explicitly told by their boss, that it is in their best interest to fire you, cut your hours, not give/give you a ****ty raise, hire somebody else to take certain of your responsibilities if the company believes that you or your position is not operating efficiently (which can result in all of the above), etc. Your boss might look out for you, but they will not jump on a grenade for you, and the power discrepancy means that you will be the one to suffer for it.
