Liberals quote Steinbeck?

Maybe? I'm not sure what you're even referring to but what I said is generally true. Poor people who are economically conservative are basically put under the delusion it's their money they are being conservative with. They defintely aren't thinking funding welfare is a gender norm lol. If that were the case you would see some significant gender difference in the support of said policies within the party.

my exp talking to poor rural southerners when I lived in a trailer park was that immigration was THE MOST important issue shortly followed by an incredible seething hysterical hatred for Hillary Clinton

uh yeah... Those are the issues the Republicans rope them in on... We were talking about economics specifically and how they justify those values.

I'd call LARPy settler mentality "I don't need no help from the gubment cause I'm a ****in cowboy" to be more of an identity politics thing than a true economic position. And that's true for a lot of middle class conservatives as well even if they're not consciously thinking in such Americana terms.

yeah.. when you break down the demographics it should be obvious that you aren't winning over extra female conservatives by focusing on trans issues lol

but who says they can't be for traditional gender roles?

I think liberals often like to smugly suggest the poor are dumb enough to think they're going to become millionaire's

there might be a degree of misunderstanding what motivates them
I think that idea rubs you the wrong way since you grew up middle class and only recently joined the lower class by failing downward.

jwb 09-16-2020 06:53 PM

Nobody is saying the right doesn't capitalize on culture war ****.... That doesn't mean that's the best way to reach them dummy.

jwb 09-16-2020 07:07 PM

You can think that and I would likely stay silent

But when you say you think lower class libertarians think welfare = girly and that's why they don't support it, that's worth mocking.

I know it hurts to recognize but life doesn't map onto your ideology perfectly, and people especially are far from rational.

You’re actually dead on here. I’ve seen a lot of it tbh. It’s sad but very true.

jwb 09-16-2020 07:15 PM

So you've found one libertarian and you're basing everything you say on this one guy ...?

The Batlord 09-16-2020 07:27 PM

More like rational, male logic divorced from girly emotional hand wringing demands that winners win and losers learn their lesson.
