Had my first day on the job at a place selling doors. Paid hourly and not commission which is really nice. Had probably too much information thrown at me in one day but I should be able to pick up on everything as I get better at talking on phones and learning MS Dos, yes thats right, MS Dos lol To make the day even better, they let me leave early, and the lady teaching me was really nice. Listened to U2 on my lunch break, now working on my next blog post. Heres a photo of my desk and computer..

Thats how old the computers are at this place ...

Oh dear lord. They're likely stuck with an old dBase system and it's too costly and and massive to switch over to something more intuitive and robust and at least be compatible with expanding tech.

Good luck there though! And congrats! Gotta get paid somehow.

Thanks, I felt so lost trying to just type up an order. They have 5 old school computers and just one normal modern PC for just email and stuff.

Thanks, I wondered why they just don't switch to modern PC's but I'm still not sure why they operate old school. The place is less than two miles away so I'm hoping to stay here and have them want to keep me around.

A lot of places put dBase (and other) systems into place in the DOS days and after years of adding items/info to the database, their systems bulged to such massive amounts of information it would take a huge capital investment to pull them into the 21st century. They likely have concluded that the system functions well enough, so it doesn't justify the cost.

I thought that also about the amount of data, plus the whole "if it aint broke, don't fix it" idea
