There's some truth to this being afraid of getting a good thrashing

But I also legitimately think the n word is far worse. The historical baggage associated is just more severe. And I would say the same thing for the k slur with Jews. And nobody is scared of getting beat up by a Jew.

Also, for black men who are apt to assault you for calling them the n word, there's a huge number of them who would similarly assault you for calling them the f word. So the idea that's the safe insult to use in that context isn't even true.

Also if he's saying gay men can choose when to say the f word then why the **** can't I? You don't think that word applies to me?

That’s a good point but on the other hand the ADL don’t play and money fights for you.

that only counts if you are a media personality or something they can go after

If you're a commoner and you call some random Jew the k slur the ADL isn't gonna do ****.

If you're a Congress woman who questions the lobbying support for Israel, on the other hand...

I've got serious respect for Omar for doing that. She's got bigger balls than the GOP.

We're talking about reappropriating the word bro, not slinging it as an insult. :/

Commoners tend to fall in line.

IMO anybody can say what ever the **** they want and nobody gets to choose how you behave.

I don't think being the member of the group you're using a slur for makes you exempt from the consequences of the word.

With in context the word can be just as harmful from another person of the group as it is from an outsider.

Even in a better context not everybody is going to understand you're joking and I personally would rather not risk accidentally making somebody feel unwelcome based on something arbitrary like their race or sexuality. Even tolerant people can be bothered by it behind closed doors. The moment nobody has to question if I am low key a bigot I'll think about using slurs more freely.

I really don't think ranking slurs by levels of offensiveness makes sense. They are all meant to make somebody else feel like they are lesser than you for their race, gender or sexuality. The amount of history behind the N word compared to the F word isn't going to make a gay person feel better about being called it. Imagine that conversation. Explaining to a gay person they shouldn't be offended by being called a F because the history behind the word isn't as heavy as the N bomb.

I also am not one to lecture somebody on their decision to use these words. Completely your choice. Nobody gets to tell you what words you can and can't use just like nobody gets to tell you what you can and can't be offended by.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Art Is Dead. Buy My ****.
