I assumed that was the case, at least to a degree, with me and a few users on this platform: I remember joking around about lesbian friends and their mating habits, for example.

Putting aside your unfortunate attempts at humour, I don't really think we disagree. I think you're kind of a dick, you sort of acknowledge that yourself.

To be clear, I think you're a dick not because you read Foucault or like The Fall. It's because on several occasions you were rude to people without any real provocation.

And because you seem to assign value to people based on what type of music they listen to.

I value people based on how they treat other people. Which is why:

Definitely agree with your last point.
Although I don't think we listen to the same music, I really quite like Key. He seems like a nice person.

That's all. Carry on...

The reason I felt comfortable making a gag about those two (2) misadventures with the LGBTQ community? Because my social circle and cultural world could hardly be any more removed from any whiff of homophobia, and I feel extremely secure joking about it. Walking on eggshells about this kind of stuff is extremely tedious, though I obv have to do it in the professional context as we all do.
You choose to stress the LGBTQ aspect in the first place, even though it's utterly irrelevant. In my experience, preoccupation is a often a first sign (or last remnant of) discrimination, like how it's a red flag when someone chooses to mention that someone is black for no reason. I think that's why adi reacted like that. For the record, I don't think you're a homophobe, certainly not in theory. I think you're attempting to bait as some kind of flex: see who's (in your eyes) simple minded enough to complain about homophobia, and then you get to diss them from your enlightened point of view, yay!
Which is something we've all seen before too many times here, it's not interesting or intimidating, it's pretty cheap and tedious. Also not a good way to find like-minded people.

Maybe you're **** at humor or not as self-aware as you like to think you are.

Invest in REIT's, instead. Save yourself from the hassle of being a landlord.

I don't know about that, I thought there was something very funny about a mildly autistic woman at a friendly lesbian neighborhood coffeeshop deciding she absolutely despises this one unpleasant guy who wouldn't smile at her jokes.

Like, funny as in how predictable or stereotypic that dynamic was.

The lesbian thing was a big part of the setting so I couldn't omit it.

Can't argue with the rest, apologies for whatever unpleasantness I caused.

Three of my friends have passed away in the recent weeks, and all from heart related issues. I've already been to one wake/funeral and I'll have another on Saturday. I don't think I'll make the 3rd one since I'll be out of town. Just another part of getting old.

I'm sorry Plank, that's awful.

I can respect the setting argument although I can't judge how well it applies here. No offence taken on my part, I slipped into grumpy mod mode (partly because had just woken up). I agree with lisna and (I assume) you btw: that kind of silly voice humour is really annoying

Condolences. One of my pals died from a heart attack at the age of 46 and another one also died from a heart attack when he was 50. They were both in good physical shape for their ages but both of their fathers died young from heart attacks, so it guess it might've been hereditary.
Another friend of mine died last year, from a tumor which wasn't discovered until far too late, and just last week I found out that another pal recently died in a car wreck.
