Today is my brother’s death anniversary.

The other day a woman behind me in traffic followed me into a parking lot. Last year in Kabul, Rylee relieved her son from his shift on the wall ten minutes before the bomb detonation.

Her son grew up here and played football at a local high school, so tonight at their home game they’re having a moment of recognition for Rylee and her son and the rest of Ghost Battalion, young kids who all left pieces of themselves behind that day.

I don’t know if I’ll attend, but we did exchange numbers and will be getting together in the future. I hope to meet her son one day, so I can tell him that I’m glad he survived, and that my brother would be as well.

Sorry to hear that. A guy I curled with once said that backs and knees don't come with a lifetime warranty. Sigh. Hope you get better soon.

I got word today that a friend of mine (also work with the guy) lost his fiancée over the weekend. Rumours from other coworkers are going around, saying it was a suicide. I never met the woman, though it sounds like she was loved by all. She was a veterinarian.
