If it's a few euro I'll just pay it for them. What the ****? What difference is two or three euro gonna make to my pocket? But it could save her some embarrassment. Why not?

Around here the common beggar comes in the form of people who pretend to need money for gas. They usually approach you in the Walmart parking lot. What kinda dumb back story. One dude was had his wife in the car with him and was like offering me his wedding band if I gave him some cash. That was a strange one.

The most usual way of begging here is for people to come up to your car when it's at a stop light. What's unlucky for this type of begging is just how difficult it is to get a coin out of your pocket when you're sitting down with a seatbelt on. TBH, I almost never try any longer.
As for shops, many chain stores have a "rounding up" scheme, connected to a charity organisation. If the total is $19.50, you hand over $20 and they ask if you want to donate the 50c to charity - it's usually something about orphans, with a photo by the till to prove it's legit. You say "Yes," or risk looking like the meanest person in the world. At the end of the day all those excess cents are credited to the charity I presume.

No, I stay away from beggars. I had a weird one though, approached me as I waited for a taxi (so I couldn't walk off, had the trolley) and wanted a tenner for a bunch of change. I mean, isn't it usually the other way around? He showed me all the coins in his hand. I didn't have a tenner, but even if I did, I want to get rid of change, not add to it. I want to be sure that if someone ever throws me in the river I have some chance at least of being able to float!
