Once whilst in my undergrad capstone course we had to peer review a classmates term paper. My partner had a lot of nice things to say about my writing flow and whatnot, I told her "yeah, I'm obviously much more eloquent on paper," and she responded with "yes, you really ARE!" Doesn't sound like an insult but that resonated with me.

When I was breaking up with my boyfriend he verbatim said to me "I hate you, and everyone who looks like you!!!" It was hard to contain the laughter.

How exactly was she supposed to answer that question in a way that wasn't either insulting or a forced attempt at reassurance?

Well jeez, I don't know. A simple "u good player" would have sufficed.

One of the much younger dudes who use to work for me (who's a freind in the real world but who I'd had to come down hard on a few times over the years in work) told me the other night that he knows that years from now he's going to look back and realize he's a better man because of me.

100% "I love you man!" moment.

No excitement here.. "You're so nice" and "You're a good listener" are pretty standard. No one has ever insulted me to my face before(that I can remember). I don't really put myself out there enough to receive either.

I receive compliments on my hair several times a day, which is very nice but not particularly creative or meaningful (or so it feels) so I love it when someone says they love my glasses, my outfit, my manner of speaking, etc. I love that.

One thing I'll never forget, though, is when a friend of mine told me "you're pretty .... in your own little way, I guess."
