In actuality there’s no such thing as “cooling”. You’re technically removing heat. The process of removing the heat and the moisture from the air and then blowing that out of the house PLUS the heat that is generated by the energy it takes to do that and blowing the cooled air back in takes energy for sure. BUT, you don’t create anything you’re just removing it. When you have to heat air you have to use considerably more energy because you’re actually heating the air not just moving it around.

In the south, we generally have very inefficient heating systems so a one week cold snap can cost you as much as a whole summer month of cooling.

I spent a little time on this post, thought about it, and then decided it wasn't thought out enough, or maybe I'm just hung-over. Screw it. Here's my thoughts.

Spoiler for rof reliops:
Here's a good look at my yearly energy bill, courtesy of ComEd. Christmas lights are a huge factor in the Dec and Jan months and those temps are way off, so I included the real high/low for those time periods. Another important variable is that I had our HVAC unit changed out in August, and you can see the huge difference between Jun and Sep. I'd say the costs are fairly similar, but the trend is toward cooling being just a bit less.

I'll take hot over cold though. Based on extreme hi/low weather temps on our planet, things (cacti and some reptiles and arachnids) can still survive in excessive heat extremes, but absolutely nothing survives in excessive cold, which tells me that cold is death. I can always find shade and water, but I can't find a warm spot in a snowstorm.

With modern comforts I'll take the cold because while it might be a little more lethal at least it's bearable and you just pass out in the event that you're going to die. No biggie. Dying in the heat usually means dying of dehydration which sounds way worse imo.

And when you're out and sweating there's **** all you can do about it but fantasize about going home and taking a shower. Or I can put on a jacket when it's cold. Not to mention that heat is exhausting and cold is refreshing, even if only because it forces you awake.

It's -9 degrees F right now, and later this week it's gonna be -15, so I hate the weather, the weather and the weather.
