You said the reason it was big news in Asia was because the owners were Thai and the reason it was big news in Italy was because one of the players is Italian. So how exactly is it representing Leicester around the world? Sounds like it's representing Italians to Italy and Thais to Asia.

No I didn't. I said it was especially big there, not solely because of some staff coming from those countries.

And also, because the name of the club is Leicester City.

You said the reason it made the front page in Italy was because of a guy named Claudio. And I don't think I'd call the owners "some staff".

That isn't the reason it was news though.

It was news because it was one of the biggest sporting upsets in history. It would be like if Liechtenstein (yeah I'm not checking the spelling) won the World Cup or, I don't know, Indiana won the World Series? Who knows? The point is, that no matter how much you want to pretend it wasn't, Jansz, it was huge news, all around the world. I watched Sky News the day after the title was won and I was amazed at how many languages it was being reported in, and how many cities, countries, places that you would think wouldn't give a curse about football.

It was big news because it was something that had never happened before and will in all likelihood never happen again.

@Frown: talking about Leicester City, team who came up from the lower division to the Premier League (highest tier in English football) and the season they were pegged to go right back down (be relegated) beat the odds and won the entire championship. The odds were, as Monkey says, five thousand to one. A lot of people made a lot of unexpected money.

So? It doesn't change that it was covered around the world on major news networks including in the US.

When was this? Being reported on a major news network isn't exactly indicative of something being a household name.
