I think I present myself pretty similarly online and irl. I've always been a bit of an open book, I value transparency. My jokes land more in real life I think. Hard to compare when I don't really know how I am perceived by others.

in terms of literal tone though I'm pretty soft-spoken and ppl say I mumble lol. I'm always having to repeat myself.

They can't hear you? Shocking.

I've chilled with a few MB members irl and I'm sure every one of them can attest to the fact that I'm the same total wad on and off this computer.

It's because inflection doesn't deliver through text. Which sucks, actually.
That's lead to many unfortunate unnecessary arguments with me with people online in the past. For example: In one instance in particular, what was a casual conversation for me over coffee in the morning with someone, was taken by that person to be me trying to be imposing.

In another instance, a casual after dinner conversation with someone for me was taken by another different person entirely than the first to be me being verbally argumentative.

In both situations I had to explain to them the misunderstanding and state: "No, believe me, you'd know if I was pissed off. I'd just totally stop talking to you all together and drop you like a hot potato."

Those people were no one on here. I was just giving examples as to how inflection and tone of voice can be misconstrued online through text.

Witty, sarcastic dry, dark humor is kind of a personality staple with me. So is over-analysis of everything non-social.

I don't know how different I am in person and online since I don't really pay attention that much. Typically I come off as an ******* and I have a pretty strong sarcastic sense of humor. Sometimes to my own detriment. However my friends irl have also said that I have a layer of genuine and niceness but i just don't show it to everybody. Mostly true I'd say. I also feel that my tone is exactly the same online and offline. It's the jokes that tend to be harder to succeed at when online.

I don't have any problem having discussions relating to disagreements on music/film/games in real life. On the internet, it's another story. Either I come off as arrogant online, or maybe people just have hilariously sensitive butt holes and thin skin. I never understood why people get so bothered about that sort of thing. It's just entertainment ffs. Who gives a **** if I like/dislike something. I could understand the ruffled feathers if I was blathering on about the inferiority of brown people or something, because then we're in political territory and it's serious business.
