Basically. I've got a friend who's all like "We'll just find some new oil. It's not a problem." And it's so frustrating a dismissal, for while it may hold true for a good while yet if we're lucky, it will absolutely not continue to go that well.

Same with several kinds of rare metals we use in all sorts of tech. We're finding little enough that it should be a concern. You can't just make some new metal.
"We'll just dig and find some more!" is a dangerously naive attitude to have.

I'm sure oil organisations have no motive at all to promote that theory.

The theory is an old 16th century theory about oil essentially forming in the core and rising up through cracks in the mantle. It is as of yet merely a theory. Interesting for sure, but not wise to bet on.


EDIT: Umm... ok, I just realized that even the link you posted holds the position that the theory probably doesn't work, but should be looked into some more none the less. The most relevant bit:

The third and most substantial reason for discounting the abiotic theory is that the chemistry doesn’t add up. First, there doesn’t seem to be enough CO2 below the surface of the Earth to make the formation of oil possible. In scientific terms, the mass balance of the equation is errant. More importantly, however, is the distinct isotopic and biochemical structure of oil, which strongly support and organic origin. For example, helium that is trapped with hydrocarbon deposits (and is an inert gas so it does not react with anything), is of a specific character that means it almost certainly came from the surface of the Earth and not anywhere else.

Continuous rate of depletion far exceeding continuous rate of replenishment. That would result in what might as well be considered "no oil being left".
