I didn't get a change in pay. For my job, it was business as usual. I didn't have to drive into the office a ton. It was usually for operational emergencies (i.e. a network goes down).
In my neck of the woods, TONS of checks were sent out. People were being paid, on average, more than what they made if they were working. Grocery store workers and a few other types of workers (fast food I think) got a buck or two more per hour for a while. |

You're f*cking scum dude. Nothing but a miserable nothing eho can't contribute anything meanwhile so you oppose everything showing progress. I know your kind. Pathetic. |

I never thought I'd see this headline. Apparently, some Canadians are seeking asylum in the US in order to escape persecution from covid policy.

Here is another covid related headline called Virtue Science. It's a good read. The author makes some solid points.

If "True North" is your idea of good journalism...

If, for instance, someone uses the word "parsec" as meaning a unit of time (like I've heard was the case in Star Wars), I'm not "reading [anything] into" it if I counter that it's wrong. |

You’re reading too much into it.

It wasn't his explanation. It was Kevin J. Anderson's from the Jedi Academy trilogy.

George Lucas says, in some blu-ray commentary, that ships in the Star Wars universe calculate hyperspace routes that turn around celestial objects, so if there are a lot of them in the way, they take longer routes. So the milennium falcon computer was able to calculate a very short route.
Skirting black holes sounds troublesome, though, as that would cause time dilation in normal physics and make your trip last longer.. like when they take a quick trip to the object closer to the black hole in Interstellar. From the point of view of the guy left behind on the main ship, that short trip lasts several decades. But I guess special physics for hyperspace could make up for that, perhaps that its space is not affected by gravity in the same way or something. |
Lucas then just compounded the error.
It's very simple: they ****ed up. He couldn't think of some space-age or nerdy replacement for hours/days and decided to go with something cool and settled on parsecs because, well, it sounded cool. You and he and Kevin J Whatever can argue and debate it all they want: it comes down to three words: it is bollocks. Don't insult my intelligence, Georgey, by making up stories to cover your lack of research/knowledge. (And just like that, the Covid-19 thread warps into a Star Wars one!) https://c.tenor.com/_u9WMSVNDYMAAAAC/obi-wan-kenobi.gif |
I felt a great disturbance in the public health, as if millions of voices suddenly coughed out in sickness and were suddenly silenced.

The Farce is strong with this one.

What hypocrisy by the CDC and democrats. Now that the mid-term elections are coming up, all of sudden all CDC covid restrictions are dropped. It was always about control, not public safety. This is so obvious. This was nothing more than another cold or flu virus. It should have been treated that way as such.
When the swine flu infected 65 million Americans back when Obama was in office, that disease was played down and there were never ever any shutdowns. Just shows you...it's all about control. |
Controlling what? Nothing happened. I'm sure the dems would love to ignore the epidemic when they're in power cause they don't want it to be a thing they have to deal with electorally, but what control mechanism are you talking about?
|
The whole world shut down, so global control then. Must be the illuminati.

1) masks don't protect against anything 2) they can manipulate the data whenever they want It's all about control and you know it. If you disagree, you are a woke liberal. |

I hope not! There isn't much for them to control in my case.
With the school year coming soon, masks were not made mandatory in schools. I haven't discussed things with the boss here, but I suspect we'll have masks on the kids. If I hear them come home asking to study, or read, I'll know for sure that mind control devices are installed! |
Got it again and this one is ****ing brutal. On the tail end of it now at least, but I've fainted several times from fevers, my brain feels like half of the wires have been ripped out, and I've hacked up my body weight in nasty phlegm. Shit almost got me, be careful out there.
|
They told me it was bronchitis brought on by covid.
|
You vaxxed I presume?
|
Yep, vaxxed and boosted.

Get well soon, man. |
Don't go out like DWV.

Might have saved your life. Get well soon. |
I'm sorry to hear you've been so unlucky, Frownland: getting covid twice, with the second one being so severe. I know from past experience that fainting is most unpleasant - mainly the minutes before when you feel all strength and energy draining out of your body :(
Hope you improve quickly now, and take care with protections. Here where I live everyone wears a mask in public buildings & transport, the obligations being set by the companies, I believe, with a foot-operated gel dispenser at most entrances. Pedestrians and car drivers, maybe 80% of people are masked. Take care, Lisna |
