I'm not a virologist. But I don't take them at face value when I see interesting turns of language. It's no different than reading through a contract.

That's the "gotcha" part that these scientists overlooked.
Uh... The virus has a novel genetic sequence and they said specifically that not only is there no evidence that it was modified in a lab but that "no system exists in the lab to make some of the changes found."

It's really astonishing that you think you've stumbled on some very simple "gotcha" that experts in the field would've somehow overlooked.
