Is there an MB Community on Reddit?
This place seems slightly dead. Wondering how we can get some new blood in here.

So try as I may not advertising MB I actually ended up with nine referrals. There are probably more members who have more referrals. But wow! for not trying I can't believe I got nine referrals. If you can entice Reddit People to join good luck to you. I hope when they join get abuse by the usual suspects here you won't get that guilty feeling like you laid down some elaborate troll trap for them. |

I liked reddit when you could actually see breaking news.

Facebook music groups are what I used to use more in my absence, until they became super bloated echo chambers. I would post a link, but I don't know how well that would go. If you want to see people constantly beg for an admin to post foot pics, join PMC. If you want to see people act like know it all idiots when all they do is listen to basic indie music, join >implying music is good.
Give it time. I came back, and it looks like others have too recently. Not sure if it's because people needed something that wasn't facebook, reddit, or 4chan, but I needed something smaller where my posts didn't get drowned in a sea of Charli XCX thirst posts. |

If we get a series of puns rolling and some YouTube music videos with no commentary, then you can just link this thread for an MB experience preview.

And when I post things here I'm lucky to get 2 relies. |
That's just because you bring a rock niche that's not very often discussed on the site with your threads. Just keep chugging and the musical discussion will find you.
|
Get into jazz or metal and you're golden here.
|
Thanks, friends.
I comment on Rock since it's my mood currently. But I really rejoined to find new stuff. Love metal, pretty into Jazz but I wouldn't say I have a favorite group like I would with other genres. Loved: Go Go Penguin, the Bad Plus, Gnappy, really love Acid Jazz. Metal I tend to lean toward Power Cheese. Dragonforce, Hammerfall, but I listening to Arch Enemy and Children of Bodom when they moment is right. |
I like what I’ve heard of The Bad Plus
What’s your top record by them? |

The forum in it's halcyon days was the place to be cause it was a place where someone could rely on a member to file share an album he/she was looking for. But now there are so many music services out there MB lost that aspect. Then Music Banter went into critical mode, where all you can do it to critique music -- music that could be found on other sites like YT or Spotify. Somehow I think MB is past "critical mode" and is now in "conversational lounge mode." Perhaps "critical mode" and "conversational lounge mode" existed concurrently at the same time, it's just the music critiquing has faded into the background. |

Do you like MMW?

Also, looking at my Most Played on Spotify, Brad Mehldau is a big artist for me. But I get the impression that's not going to be a big hit on these forums. I keep an instrumental playlist on Spotify I tend to dump whole albums on these days and just let it spin. If you want to try the list out and see what you find, here's the link. |

I knew a guy who loved them, and I thought he was a super *******. Plus I've always associated them with the Phish crowd, right or wrong, and I just stayed away. Am willing to give up my past prejudices. |
I hate Phish but yeah they run in the jam band crowd. Why not cheat and go with a compilation just to see:
Last Chance to Dance Trance (Perhaps): Best Of (1991–1996) If you want a studio record instead I like The Dropper and Friday Afternoon in the Universe. I associate them with Bad Plus but I don’t really know why. Looking through MMW’s discography I’ve only heard a fraction of it tbh |
You know they aren't bad, but it has a 70's feel, like if the BTO, or the backing band for James Brown on "Hell" did a side detour. They've got some B.J. Thomas to them, a hint of steely dan.
Thoughts on Morphine? |
Saw them live once in Portland. Like almost anybody I have a positive impression of Cure for Pain
Codeine was a good band, too lol |

The Bad Plus is indeed tight as **** though. I saw their drummer Dave King play in the Chris Speed trio and he took it to the next level. |

@Frown. Oof because of their music, or because they wrote Soldiers of the Wasteland about the posters here? Kidding.
@Bats - HCDR is the only album I own, so I guess I just meant that album. And since I haven't mentioned it in a while, and if you haven't tried them, Moon Hooch is always a jam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwBhxBBa7tE |

I haven't made it through an entire DF album but honestly, I can't say that about many bands. I think the album is an artificial metric we've been told we must appreciate. But I grew up buying 18 track CDs for $23 because a marketing team said that if it has more songs they can charge more.
Albums are a conspiracy by Big Label and I refuse to accept it. |

I doubt I’ll ever buy another album in my life.

Yes, albums are an arbitrary restriction but so are parallelogram paintings and TV shows that are either 1 hour or 1/2 hour.
|
Non album singles defo need more love.
|
I love a nice single. But if I hear a new track and love it I have to hear it within the context of the album or I just feel like I haven't done my due diligence.
|
If I want to listen to a modern classical ambient it should be about the length of an album. If I want to listen to some bomb ass dance music, put that **** on a single or EP. It depends what the artist is trying to achieve, and you also have to think about listener fatigue as well.
|
Often I find an artist I like but then it’s like 5 full length lps worth of music in one year and it’s a big turn off.
