It's an advantage that we can learn behavior and pass on information verbally

That doesn't mean we ceased to have instincts or became less reliant on them

Rather our instincts expanded to include the ability to learn things via social interaction and observation. All of this serves the same basic function that any instinct serves. Which is just guidelines to live by.
