You have various types of audio signal. Some are:

  • Mic level - very low levels sent by microphones. These need preamplification before the amp stage. The lowest signal are sent by dynamic & ribbon mics.
  • Instrument level - low volume high impedance signal sent by pickups, like an electric guitar. Needs preamping.
  • Line level - loud signal sent by synths, preamps, various audio devices. Does NOT need preamp.

The main input on your guitar / bass amp has a preamp as well as an amp stage and is meant for instrument level inputs.

Synth sends line level, so preamp should be bypassed. Instead of hooking it up like a guitar, look for an aux/line in on the back.

Dope, thanks.

Any recommendations for if I want to do a janky line in connection to an instrument level input? My studio amp has an aux but isn't cutting it live; my current alternative is a Peavey that the synth would sound great on if it wasn't so touchy.

Turn the volume way down on the synth to barely nothing and let the amp do all the lifting. You'll probably still get a lot of distortion, but maybe it sounds cool.

Amp vol up, synth vol low and adjust from there, like GB sez.

If not, some other activity that is generally enjoyed by queer women? Or maybe there are LGBT+ organisations close to you that need volunteers?

Sorry M'lady I forgot to reply your message. I unfortunately have chronic pain due to fibromyalgia and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome which makes sports non viable (but great suggestion). I will try Facebook groups where we can all get together and do something we enjoy. It sucks living so far out from the city centre as that is where all the gay bars and events happen. I won't give up though, thank you! I've been wanting to volunteer so that might just be perfect. I'll try to remember to update you/

My answer to your question, Cella D, would be a less certain variation on Marie's answer: find a club that focuses on something you genuinely enjoy: sport, book-club, etc. It may not be full of female love interest, but at least it'll be full of people with whom you share an enthusiasm.
Also, the chance of k.d.lang touring through your town must be remote, but watch out for any artists with similar reputations.

Book club sounds nice, and ironic as I work in a library lol! Okay, I will find a good event going on that is worth heading to the city for. Thanks love <3

I have no advice to offer anyone for synthesizers or finding female friends.

I do agree with the club route. If you don't find any love interests, you can still network. Best of luck!

How about female friends with synthesisers?
