Marie crosses the Atlantic!

Whoop
I'll have to be on the US East coast in the middle of November for work reasons, but I'm planning to take a bit of time off to go around and see as much of America as I can, New York at the very least. Let me know if you have any tourist recommendations, survival tips, or if you want to meet up and have a beer

rubber soul 10-05-2022 06:57 AM

If you plan on visiting Washington (from New York), you'll likely be crossing my backyard as I'm on the outskirts of Baltimore. Not much of a music scene in Baltimore but DC had a thriving one for a while.

Mindfulness 10-05-2022 06:58 AM

whoop whoop have fun! central park in nyc is nice

Plankton 10-05-2022 07:16 AM

If you go to Times Square, that'll be one more time(s square) than me. :)

Pacific > Atlantic

The Batlord 10-05-2022 02:42 PM

I'm guessing you're not going all the way down to my neck of the woods but feel free to hit me up if you do.

Marie Monday 10-05-2022 02:56 PM

actually I have to be in North Carolina so....

The Batlord 10-05-2022 04:56 PM

Well the fetid, malarial swamps of Portsmouth, Virginia are always welcoming to outsiders. Maybe you'll get to see a hurricane! Might actually be after hurricane season but who knows these days.

SGR 10-05-2022 06:41 PM

The most important thing you need to know about the US - if you wander out in the woods, do it with friends...and watch out for Bigfoot...

The Batlord 10-05-2022 06:57 PM

And it's rude to enter someone's house wearing a hat and not a gun.

Congratulations Marie! A business trip can be exciting and it's also an indication of how you are regarded in your job.
I remember working in a London office once, and some of my colleagues were being sent to Iraq and Saudi Arabia to coordinate construction projects. And me? I was sent to Birmingham and Stratford-on-Avon. :(

If you want some tips about life in New York, I recommend you watch Midnight Cowboy and Taxi Driver if you haven't seen them yet. That way you'll know what to expect ;):

rubber soul 10-06-2022 08:22 AM

Actually, Marie, New Yorkers are quite nice. They do have a blunt way of saying things when they think they've been crossed (getting cut off in traffic, somebody doing something stupid, etc). They don't mess around but you have to love them for their brutal honesty. They are some of the most real people I know.

Trollheart 10-06-2022 08:35 AM

I don't know any real people. :(

The stereotypes about NYC are from the pre-9/11 era. Al Qaeda effectively bombed all of the "attitude" out of that city. Now it's full of the fakest people in the country just like LA.

rubber soul 10-08-2022 09:43 AM

I was last in New York in 2000, before 9/11. I was working inventory with a local crew from Brooklyn. The basic attitude then was don't let anyone try to intimidate you. I didn't really see it as a stereotype. I just really enjoyed working with that bunch.

jwb 10-08-2022 09:56 AM

That same part of Brooklyn is now probably full of trust fund kids and handlebar mustaches

The Batlord 10-08-2022 10:46 AM

Yeah damn globalist coastal elites.

jwb 10-08-2022 10:59 AM

Yawn

Gentrification is an anti Semitic buzzword apparently

The Batlord 10-08-2022 11:01 AM

My jokes only work on retards and women anyway.

jwb 10-08-2022 11:04 AM

You don't have to present them as 2 distinct groups just to be PC

The Batlord 10-08-2022 11:10 AM

One group I'm trying to have sex with, the other are women.

jwb 10-08-2022 11:13 AM

lol

Who is that in your avy BTW? It looks like a transgender Ash from Pokemon.

The Batlord 10-08-2022 11:45 AM

Misato Katsuragi from Neon Genesis Evangelion. She's the best cause she's a drunk.

TheBig3 10-08-2022 08:41 PM

Sorry to cut in here, fellas.

Marie, what line of work brings you to NC? Tobacco?

And NYC is awesome. Disregard the nonsense.

Alright I concede the point, jdubbz.

jwb 10-08-2022 08:54 PM

lol

What part of NC you going to, Marie?

SGR 10-08-2022 09:33 PM

NYC Night-time Vibes

NYC Day-time Vibes

jwb 10-08-2022 11:21 PM

Honestly though it's probably still the best city in this country I'm just saying it's not the same gritty cesspool it used to be.

Charlotte

rubber soul 10-09-2022 05:45 AM

Charlotte is nice. When I was a kid, we would spend Christmases with my Mom's ex's family. His mother was in Morehead City on the coast and he had a sister with kids my age in Raleigh. We would have a blast. Anyway, NC is a beautiful state; take some pinecones back with you.

Marie Monday 10-09-2022 10:34 AM

Nice. I imagined NC to be dull but I may like it. In any case, just the experience of being in the US will be interesting

The Batlord 10-09-2022 11:19 AM

So are you travelling the US by plane? Train? Renting a car?

Marie Monday 10-09-2022 11:28 AM

Check your discord pms dude

Plankton 10-10-2022 07:54 AM

The good people of Charlotte certainly need more physics. :)

Safe travels, and if you happen to come though Chicago, make sure you're packin heat.

The 2nd coming of Wannstedt. We all had such high hopes, only to be sha oobie sha-ttered.

jwb 10-10-2022 08:01 PM

Charlotte is nice but yeah pretty dull. It's about an hour south of where I live which is even more dull.
