You can pretty much just grind till' death and win with sheer bulldozer power. Just depends on your willpower and dedication.

The exp. share makes training your pokemon obsolete, because they all level up on their own. It was by far my least favourite aspect of the game.

Only if you stick to the same six Pokemon all game. I've always been a big fan of trying out new Pokemon and training them from nothing. Makes the game A LOT longer.

I used to watch the show daily as a kid, but all that I remember about it was thinking that one of the side character had an outrageously huge rack and the realization I had that "To Be Continued" wasn't pronounced "To Be Continude."

Doesn't change the fact that it's way easier than it should be, in my opinion. You could bring 5 new Pokemon, keep your highest level, and get all the new ones exp. without even using it. I preferred when it only would benefit one at a time.
