The first part, what I image was the original short story - The fireman, is very good. But the added bit just feels forced and unconvincing. 1984 blows it out of the water.

Really? 1984 bored the **** outta me, Bradbury has always had a pulpish flair to his work.

Trying to finish up Lord of Light, it is a parable for the ages.

I have to read 1984 this semester, hopefully I like it.

What did you think overall?

Cause I couldn't stand it.

Yeah, I just finished it tonight, and I have to say, it was a chore. Like I said earlier, the first part is really good, well rounded with a great, open ending. But then he goes into detail about how it all came to be, most of which makes little to no sense, the character's actions are illogical, the plot strenuous at best, and generally every sentence just feels forced and redundant. Overall I wouldn't recommend it, no. If you could get a hold of the short story yes, but not in this form. Very much not convinced by him as a writer. Can't say I'll be searching out any more of his stuff. :\

Well sir, then you don't know a good novel when you read one. Orwell is 10 times the writer Bradbury could ever hope to be. :|

Anyone thing Bukowski liked Orwell? ;)

Oh woah is me, I don't like the dry, essay of a novel..... :nono:

Your free to your opinion, even though it's wrong but I would ask you to pull your head out of your dark recess and read a few more works by Bradbury, and while your at it....I want you to go find a ****ing SOUL!

Don't take that personally now....:p:

A rare read of a novel for me and that was years back. Biblically Gothic if that makes sense. I enjoyed it.

1984 is far more significant and important than anything Bradbury ever produced. How is it even a dry read? Because it isn't flowery Updikesque bullshit or what?
