What did you think after the second one? All started to take shape for me.

Yeah, The Gunslinger is more prologue than anything.

I'm liking it so far. The Drawing if the Three suffered some doldrums in the middle, but by the end of the book i was unquestionably committed to the series.
Despite the fact that King is a grossly overrated writer, he is a magnificent storyteller. There are times when the narrative is flowing beautifully and he will just interject his own personal colloquialisms into the mix, an annoying trait of his, but I'm sure he sees it as lending to his authenticity as a writer. The occassional eyeroll or facepalm is outweighed by the complexity of the story and king's vibrant imagination.

I knew what Drawing was about and who the characters were and thought I wouldn't like it, but he wrote it so well and the characters came into their own quickly. I really enjoyed the second book.

The introduction of Odetta Holmes/Detta Walker in Drawing started out very slow, boring and awkwardly written. It was at that point that I was considering cutting my losses and moving on to something else, but once that whole scenario finally took shape the novel practically read itself. I was hooked

I read a review if the entire series that said it all starts to go downhill in quality after the 4th book, the reviewers main complaint being that at some point in the series King actually inserts himself as a character. I know that Vonnegut did almost the same thing in Breakfast of Champions briefly (i think it was BoC) in a "voice of god" (i.e. The ultimate omniscient narrator) sort of way, but still I'm curious to see if King does it in a way that's anything short of nauseating.

Yeah, it all makes sense in his world. It definitely takes a turn in the last two books from what you're used to. King's appearance is a bit poor at first but the way he ties it into his own life and his accident ends up being good for the series.

The series isn't perfect but I dont mind even the major flaws on it. Book 4 is very different though, you may love it, you may struggle with it.

Decided to try and get a World of Darkness game going seeing as how I finally found a game shop in Reno and thus, fellow table top RPG gamers.
