Pratchett is an absolutely sublime author. The covers are very cartoony but the books are much, much more witty and accessible than to be pigeon holed as for "D&D nerds" and often they have a good background plot that gets you thinking.

All this Pratchett talk has made me decide to go back and re-read this one:

^ If we want to start with a book by Pratchett, any suggestions?

The Wee Free Men was the first one I read, but I was in about second grade then so some parts of it went over my head.

I also really like THUD, so you could start with that one.

Night Watch is very good, follows Sam Vimes who is a very thoughtful character in all his books. Fun plot twists, good amount of zany and good amount of serious with some good deep undertones.

Mort is a pretty good place to start, it's about the personification of Death and his young apprentice, Mort.

Hehe we all answered different things. But I'm not a huge reader so you should probably listen to them

Well, I've only read the first two (and have started on the third) but those were fantastic so I'd say just go chronologically...:\

The books aren't really that chronologically relevant and you can quite happily leap in the middle of them. The characters are established well enough each time that any references you're missing from previous books that involved them will tend to be very minor.
