I actually bought it because John Irving, one of my favorite authors, did a pretty glowing review of it, so I'm definitely interested. It also deals with the AIDS crisis during the 1980's and one of my friends just told me he's HIV positive, so it's partly an homage to him as well, but yeah, I'm excited to read it.

I got burned by an Author on Author review one. Chuck Phalunk (whatever) gave Knockemstiff kind words and it was a ****storm.

As for AIDS, didn't want Angels in America, huh?

Well, I didn't think in terms of, "Hmm, what AIDS book am I gonna' get?", I was toolin' around Amazon and came across it and the fact that it dealt with that particular subject matter was just one of the selling points, I guess.

ROFL.

I'm honestly trying not to give myself away at work right now by laughing my ass off. I'm not picturing B&N having an AIDS section. Well I hope you'll post a review of some kind when you finish.

Well yeah, It's right next to all the Sudoku books...

Well, Irving's The Cider House Rules, being one of my favorite books, dealt strongly with the issue of abortion and all of its moral gray areas from the "country doctor" perspective. Similarly, this book deals with the AIDS epidemic and its own set of ensuing issues from the same "country doctor" perspective, so I think it should be a pretty enjoyable read. I'll keep you updated.

^ A collection of articles from professional curmudgeonly old bloke Charlie Brooker. Pretty hilarious stuff.

Also, I was hesitant for a long time too, but it's been getting universal praise and from people I trust, so it's finally on the table and I can tell you, it's fan-bleeding-tastic. I'm not sure I'll dive into the next one straight away (The world according to Garp is the next in line) but I definitely mean to finish the series within a month or two. Epic and so freaking well written.

I really liked his short stories collections; Dreamsongs.
