I just started reading The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston. It's turning out to be quite good. Reading about how the police have handled the case of the Monster has been baffling (for me anyway). But I don't want to say too much. Definitely worth a shot if you're looking for books about serial killers though.

Thanks NSW.

In the meantime, I'm reading...

Which is average. The case studies are often very interesting, but Sacks explains them in a way that's strictly professional, and it doesn't translate into very enjoyable reading. If this was intended for a broader audience than the neuro-analytical sort (which I believe it was), then I think he's failed as a writer.

Or, at least I will be as soon as my Mom (who demanded the privilege of reading it first) finally finishes it.

Based on the cover, I was initially expecting some Dark Tower kind of explanation, like with the multiple "whens" and all of that jive.

My mother tells me that's not the case. Interest piqued.

I've got this book queued up too, bought a hardback copy a while ago.

Speaking of the Dark Tower, I've put off reading the 7th book because you said it was so devastating! I don't want it to end. :(

I'm also reading 11/22/63. I got it for christmas. It isn't bad but not amazing either.

wow....finished the unabridged Moby Dick.....and officially know more about sperm whales and the whaling industry circa the 1800s....still the last few chapters are amazing and Melville proves to be a master story teller....but i can't lie i don't think i would ever suggest to anyone to read the unabridged unless you really were looking for that much information about whaling....the abridged book is much faster in story and much more exciting to read :)

moving onto this....somehow i missed reading this and i can't think of why :)

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

****ed up yet brilliant book I tell ya. About a futuristic dystopian world where humans are mass produced and conditioned, Henry Ford is considered God, and eight-year-old's have orgies.
Incredibly verbose and difficult to read, but behind it all is a great book.

Maybe thirty years since I read that book. It left quite an impression though. Should dig it out and give it another read.

Nothing but text books right now for me. Can't wait to pick up something entertaining again.

Consent of the Networked: The Worldwide Struggel for Internet Freedom

First brand new hardcover book I've bought in quite a while, so far it's been very informative about the Internet restrictions in countries like Egypt, China, Tunisia, and many more. I do think it gets a little too much into the "blogging will save us all" mentality, but I still think this will be a thoroughly enjoyable read.
