Life of Pie was explained by the author in an interview I saw as a modern religous story.
I think reading a book more then once can be wasteful what with so many books I will never have time to read.
Another book I read last week is Darren Brown's Tricks of the Mind which is how the conjurer fools people and pretends to read their thoughts through trickery.
People in the US may have seen messiah where he pretends to be talking to the dead and they all believe him.
I strongly recomend McCarthys Bar to people as it shows us Irish in a funny and sincere light and will make you smile and laugh. He wrote a follow up called road to McCarthy where he goes to find all pubs called McCarthy all over the world.
He has distain for paddywhackery pubs and loves good conversation and proper pubs.
Many people prefer the follow up but both are real easy light and fun reads.
McCarthys Bar was a bestseller in the UK.

Ther are books that i'm hoping its been long enough for me to read again. Cider House Rules comes to mind. I haven't read it in 6 years. Usually I can't bring myself to read fiction more than once. Non-fiction is another story.

I have read certain books well over ten times and never got fed up with them. there is no point in buying books just for them to look all pristine on your shelves. A well thumbed bookshelf oozes class lol

Yeah I have read a few books a good few times. But I find it hard to really enjoy once I have read them.
It is just that I know there are so many good books I should have new reads.
As for tatty books I get grief off my brother for leaving his books tatty by putting them in my bag with cans of beer and leaked tobacco and all chewed up!!!
He says "were you run over by a bus or something"
I tend to loan my books if I like them to others but rarely do they get returned.
They had an idea in london a few years ago for people to leave books on the tube when finished for others to take up but I never saw one. They got the idea from new york.
I read all the time. One thing I have always done is read.
A good book I read a short while ago is will storr versus the supernatural where a journo goes looking for ghosts and stuff.
I like those bubblegum books that give you a day or two of enjoyment.

I have the attention span of a gnat, so even if I can manage to keep my attention on one book at a time, I'll have often forgotten most of the content within a month. Pulp is great for repeated reads though, I agree (autobiographies, the Art of War, comics etc)

That is where I differ. I can leave a book for a month and just step right back into it. Unfortunately it does mean that sometimes I don't read for a couple of weeks and then turn into a bookworm.

I wish I had more time for reading but with Work, family and MB, time seems to be in ever shorter supply.

Funny thing, I read most on trains.
Times when I am commuting alot is when I read the most.
I never liked reading a few pages like at lunch. When I get into a book I read it all cover to cover for hours on end then pay with no sleep the next day.
I think of books likes films or tv programs and can't stop and start.
There have been times lately when I buy a bottle of coke and some chocs stay up for about 2 days and read a selection of books then lay off books for a week or so.
I could never read a few pages each night like that.
Same with my diploma study. I just crammed for days on end each exam.
That works best for me.

I have also read a lot of badly written books that annoy me for wasting my time.

Unfortunately I don't partake of Coca Cola or Chocolate. I like to keep my body free of that filth. besides there would be no room for beer would there?
