Wondering whether this bothers anyone else.

I worked for twenty years as a graphic designer and publisher. I've just received the book, I Am Dogboy collecting the web diary entries of one of my favorite musicians, Karl Hyde of the electronic duo Underworld, who is also the head of the pioneering arts collective, Tomato.

Tragically, the point size of the type is abnormally large, resulting in a book that feels like an oversized brick in hand. The margins are comparatively too narrow for the line width and point size. The leading is too wide on pages typeset in a Courier-like face in an attempt to simulate the appearance of a website. And the typeface changes from entry to entry. All of this impairs the book's readability.

The book's design is credited to John Warwicker, a key member of the Tomato design collective, who has previously laid out brilliant visual art monographs like Process and mmm… skyscraper i love you, but this is evidently his first attempt at a publication predominantly comprising body copy and unfortunately it is there that he falters from an otherwise praiseworthy career of groundbreaking design.

It's such a shame - I really want to enjoy exploring the artist's ideas, inspirations, and memories. But the whole layout is demonstrably poor and ill-executed. Has anyone else had this experience? And did you stick it out and read it anyway?

I dislike when the margins go right to the edges. It makes it inconvenient to read.
