I just got a friends book of poetry in the mail yesterday. Called Love-in-Idleness. If you're looking for some poetry, I'd suggest checking it out.

Not sure what to make of it yet, too early. Though, Tom Robbins is possibly the best author of opening sentences.

Being a huge Tom Robbins fan, I can say with honesty that this really isn't one of my favorites. It being his first novel, I think he tried to hard to put his humor across and the story itself suffered for it. It's one of the only novels of his that I struggled to get through, ( the other being Half-asleep in Frog Pajamas, mainly because it's written exclusively in second person narrative). I hope you have a better go at it and if you haven't read any of his other works, I assure you the experience gets much better.

Which Tom Robbins book would you recommend for a complete newcomer?

Thanks Satch! I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm only about halfway. Half Asleep was hard for me to get through too, but I enjoyed Fierce Invalids, so I'm persevering through his work. Like Eric asked, what is your top Robbins rec?
