Zhang Liao and Zhang Liang

Zhang Wei and Jiang Wei

All different people.

And those are just their regular names. Each person also has a formal name. For example, Liu Bei is also known as Yuante, and you better remember that, 'cause Lo Kuan Chung (nowadays the pinyin is Luo Guanzhong) just uses whichever name he wants whenever the **** he feels like.

And ROTK also has hundreds of characters to keep track of, so... yeah.

Oh god no you're right. They also do that formal/informal name thing in Russia though, and they also all have second first names or something

I remember being intensely shamed by an old Russian woman I worked with when discussing Crime and Punishment for referring to Raskolnikov as Rodion.

My mother once knew an old Russian woman who claimed to be Anastasia and that's the extent of my Russian knowledge.
