That's really only the case for Melee, only clone in the original was Luigi, and Brawl got rid of half of Melee's clones and made the rest more distinctive, there's no two characters in the game I'd say are the same.
Luigi is VERY different from Mario in several ways, his side b and b down are completely different, his b up is similar but still quite different. Plus he controls a lot differently, he's really not a clone at all.
Falco is a bit more different now, his b down shield move is actually an effective attack. While Wolf is somewhat of a Fox clone, his moves are still quite different, different enough that aside from having the same Final Smash, I don't consider him
that much of a clone.
Ganondorf, while basically having the same moves as Captain Falcon still controls a lot different due to being way slower, heavier and more powerful.
Only new clone added to the game is Lucas, who I admit is probably my least favorite character to use, I just stick with Ness.
