Oldboy is ****ing brilliant, but I think (along the same lines) Ichi the Killer was slightly better. I would recommend:

If we can only reccomend one movie at a time my first reccomendation is:

A great film about growing up in 80's england, and the threat of violence permeates every scene.

Saw this, fantastic film.

I'd strongly recomend 'Bad news' it's basically the cast from the young ones and dawn french in a film very similar but better than 'this is spinal tap' it's a two parter and at the end if has appearances from ozzy and motorhead hen they play monsters of rock.

that movie came out the same year as saving private ryan, and everyone loved saving private ryan for some reason, thin red line is bloody great. watch it or die.

Will I be able to relate and enjoy even though I did not grow up in 80's england?

It is worth it just for the astonishing central performance of 11 year old Thomas Turgoose who had never acted before this film. The music is great too and exactly what 80's skinheads were listening to. The film is in it's correct regional accent, so this may put people off. I think you would enjoy it or at least appreciate it.
