Watched 'The Third Man' again today. Probably one of the 10 greatest film noirs.

That really is such a great movie. Interesting side note: Orson Welles actually did a radio program called The Lives of Harry Lime in the early 50s that functioned as a prequel to the movie. I used to have a couple of the episodes, pretty good stuff.

Was browsing Netflix and looking for something a little creepy. Ended up watching "The Haunting of Julia" starring Mia Farrow. Was not prepared for how much it creeped me out.

It's not gory or fast-paced...it creeps along, building onto the eerie atmosphere until the very dark conclusion. I still feel a bit uneasy.

Just wondering if anyone's seen the new "Judge Dredd" yet, and if it's worth getting excited about? Not that I'll have a chance to see it before it's out on DVD, but still...

If you like action movies that dispense with plot and get straight to the violence, then hell yes it's worth getting excited about. But you should really see it in 3D. It's almost exclusively in doors, and the 3D actually makes it pretty immersive, not to mention the slow-mo shots just look cool.

Did anybody ever really read the Judge Dredd comics for the plot anyways? I was always under the impression that it was favoured because of the violence that wasn't available in mainstream superhero comics at the time.

The plot got a bit muddy at times but the camera work and ending are worth the watch.

Cult classic that I haven't seen until now. This really is a definition of cult classic. The acting is horrible and the plot was written by a 12 year old but it was fun to watch. I had trouble believing that Bronson would get mugged every single day after his wife dies. Those muggers were begging to be killed.

I'm not sure what you're asking there, Pete. Are you saying did the directors/writer read the source material, or is it that you want to know if anyone here has read the comic?

If the latter, HELL YEAH! Dredd fan since Prog 2! Love that guy! Thought the first movie was ok apart from Ol' Mumbles in the title role, but they really got Mega-City One down, fair play to them. Also good to see both the Angel Gang and Rico in the plot, even an ABC Warrior: though maybe on reflection they tried to push too much into one movie? I oughta have gone up to FOUR on 'em!

Favourite alltime Dredd saying: guy turns into a giant spider, Judge says
"You're under arrest!"
Spiderguy says, "For what?"
Judge says "What do you mean, for what? For turning into a giant spider!"
Spiderguy asks "Is that a crime?"
Judge admits "You know, you've got me there!"

Also, when everyone is trying to find Dredd to arrest him, and this old lady phones in and the judge on the desk says "Sorry ma'am, but walkin' kinda funny is not yet a crime!" Note the use of the word "yet"....

Don't know. Never read 'em. Would like to, but haven't.

P.S. @ Trollheart - If you liked the first movie, then definitely see the new one. Much better.
