What's The Latest Film You Have Seen?

The Savages.

Punch Drunk Love is a great movie and may well give you a newfound respect for Adam Sandler. The Jon Brion soundtrack is great as well.

I haven't seen the other two yet, but both are on my to-see list.

You seriously can't go wrong with anything Paul Thomas Anderson. He's literally the second coming of Stanley Kubrick. Yeah I just said that. See Punch Drunk Love.

Apparently you're already convinced but I also endorse Punch Drunk Love. At one point I deemed it My Favorite Movie even.

Valhalla Rising
Holy crap, this movie was terrible! Imagine a film where Nicolas Winding Refn took the stoicism of Driver from Drive (which I loved) and applied it to every single character in the movie and you have some sense of what this is like. Long on rough-looking men standing around wordlessly in the fog and/or mud and short on little niceties like character and plot, this movie features a bunch of unnamed, one dimensional characters essentially doing nothing for an hour an half. Except sometime they kill each other for no apparent reason. The end.

Am I the only person that thought Waking Life didn't need to be an actual movie?
Seriously, you could have just had the rambling dialog on a Youtube video without the visuals and called it an amateur pictureless documentary and still get the same out of it.

No, not all. The gorgeous animation, the beautiful score, and the revelation at the end of the movie of what it was really about would all be lost if you did that.

There are a lot of Waking Life fans on this board. I actually just watched a movie that reminded me of Waking Life...

The Sunset Limited

WHAT. A. F*CKING. SCRIPT. Cormac McCarthy is awesome. I mean the dude wrote the screenplay to a best picture winner. He wrote one of the best novels of the past 30 years in The Road and now he has this powerhouse of a play turned HBO special. Jones and Jackson could talk all day and I'd listen. I loved their chemistry and their acting was great; especially Jackson. I'm beginning to like him better now that I've seen this and Django. The dude is coming back strong after a lot of ****. The reason this reminded me of Waking Life is because it literally is an hour and a half conversation about religion and meaning of existence and what happens when we die. Jackson plays a character who saved Jones from killing himself by throwing himself in front of a train. Jackson has to keep him at his apartment and try to convince him that life is worth living. It's an amazing and thought provoking script that didn't get boring and was acted out beautifully by the two. Definitely check this out sometime.

Frankenweenie

This is Tim Burton's best work since Big Fish. The animation was fantastic and I loved the little homages and nods towards classic horror cinema such as The Mummy, Bride of Frankenstein, and b-movie monster flicks. The whole film had that kind of black and white classic feel. It felt like it was a lot older than it is. It was also a challenging film as it basically flat out screamed that people can be ignorant and stupid when it comes to culture and science. I liked Paranorman better but I certainly enjoyed this.

Definitely Tarantino's worst film, but that's still pretty damn good. :P

I loved the line Stuntman Mike gives about turning left or right. I've already found it easily quotable.

The final chase scene is f*cking intense too. I actually scooted my chair much farther away from the screen and slightly covered my eyes I was so nervous, and I only do that for the scariest of horror movies.
