Gave in to the hype and watched 'Paranormal Activity' to avoid working. Utter balls. Sloppily written, failed to capture the realism it was so desperately groping for, one cliche after another... Tried to rip off elements of B-Witch and Exorcist unsuccessfully. There were a couple of moments of tension (some of the sound/visual effects were nifty), but the makers obviously had no idea what to do with it. I was too busy hating it to be scared.
The extremely annoying photogenic couple living in their affluent suburb you just want to die writhing in agony from the get-go... let's just say I stuck with this for the boredom and the expectation of a pay-off - it never arrived.
Whereas Blair Witch tore your nerves to shreds when it first came out, PA just leaves you and wondering how popular standards have sunk so low, then realizing it's because of sh*t like this and wanting to go on stabbing spree

Gonna watch a few of these tonight. It's a series of short horror flicks directed by, appropriately enough, all the 'masters' of the genre, including John Landis, John Carpenter, Stuart Gordon, Takashi Miike and so on, and I've just found a stream of them all online.

Should be interesting.

I've had so many movies sitting in my Netflix Instant Queue for months, and finally got around to watching a few of them this past week. Last night I watched "Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles". It's a 3 and a half hour long french foreign film, made in the 70's; very experimental, but overall worth it (for me at least). You've got to be very patient, because the scenes are painfully dry and for the most part, silent. Watch the "trailer" and it just about sums it up.

JCVD—Not as good as the hype would have you believe but still pretty enjoyable and definitely the best Van Damme movie I've ever seen.

^ That was the second time I watch that movie, and I still don't know what it's about. But I just love it, so much better than all the Italian Neo-Realism (e.g Fellini's Roma) I find it much more real. That movie is so subtly crazy, each scene is by itself a classic leading to a climax. I just watch that movie and see what influenced Lynch, Burton, Almodovar, Scorsese, Kubrick ... and so many others that name Frederico Fellini as one of their major influences.

Saw this the other night after a long time of hearing it was great. I definitely thought it was good, and the acting was fantastic. Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actor, and everyone else did a great job as well. Well written with and interesting plot

I saw Paranormal Activity yesterday ..

I do not think it deserves the hype. If you don't find it scary, the movie has basically nothing else to offer. It only works on one level. It's a pity, I suspected it might be like that, but I love a good ghost story so I watched it hoping I would get one. There's no real ghost story here and by that I mean there's no real explanation to the stuff that goes on. The harassing entity has almost no substance and no background - it's just there and it does stuff. As a horror film buff, I did not find it particularly terrifying - it is certainly not the scariest film ever made. Far, far, far from it.

I saw the shining afterwards which for me is scarier and has an interesting story. That's a good film .. Paranormal Activity was ****e compared.
